What does AAUP do at UCA?

What is the purpose of our chapter?
AAUP is emphatically dedicated to defending academic freedom and shared governance in higher education. Historically, the Richard Hudson chapter played a significant role in shaping the UCA faculty handbook into a model of shared governance and due process for all faculty.

Today, our AAUP chapter ensures that UCA remains committed to academic freedom and faculty’s right to grieve against violations of shared governance and academic freedom. We serve as an advisory body and an outside vehicle for communication with administration.

What support can AAUP offer to individuals?
AAUP cannot act in an official way regarding individual concerns or complaints about shared governance and academic freedom violations. However, we can provide advice and support for faculty regarding academic freedom concerns or grievances.

Ready to join?
Joining the chapter is easy! Local dues are currently free, and national membership is not required to participate. If you’d like to be notified when we have meetings or gatherings, email Jessica Riedmueller at jriedmueller@uca.edu, or look for meeting notifications on UCA Inform.

2015 Fall Meeting of the UCA Chapter of the AAUP

The Richard Hudson Chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) is having our Fall meeting next Tuesday, September 29 in the Library Dean’s Conference Room on the second floor at x-period, 1:40.  We have had a request to reopen the issue of granting tenure to Senior Lecturer/Clinical Instructor/Laboratory Instructor, so that will be first up on our agenda.  If you have a particular interest in this issue, I urge you to attend.
You can read more about the AAUP’s position on tenure on the national site: http://aaup.org/issues/tenure/resources-tenure
New members are welcome.  If you paid dues last April and are up-to-date with national dues, you can vote next week if we need to take a vote (which I’m thinking we will).  If you didn’t pay last April, please bring $10 with you in either cash or check.  You’ll also have to be up-to-date with national dues.
Otherwise, you are welcome to attend and speak but cannot vote.
Please let me know if you have any questions or issues you would like to be considered.
Sincerely,
Lynn Burley
President, Richard Hudson Chapter of the AAUP
