Dr. Lisa VanHoose, Director and Principal Investigator

I am from Little Rock, AR. I am a J.A. Fair High School graduate! Go War Eagles!! I am an Assistant Professor in the Physical Therapy department at the University of Central Arkansas. My research focuses on the incidence, prevalence, and severity of cancer related side effects with an emphasis on the disease burden of minority cancer survivors. I enjoy the complex questions! I believe the questions we encounter in clinical practice are the best research questions and the knowledge gained from research needs to be fully integrated into clinical practice. Katelyn Blagg, Undergraduate Research Assistant

I am a sophomore and am majoring in Physical Therapy, and I am from Fort Smith, AR.  I love my dog, school, and I love my family. I love meeting new people and I love getting to experience new opportunities. When I was a junior in high school I experienced a full knee replacement due to a sports injury. I had to experience going to physical therapy 4 times a week for 3 months and then eventually 2 times a week until I was released. Getting to know my PT and getting to experience it from a patients point of view made me want to pursue this career. Research is important for this field so we can cater to more types of people, situations, and injuries. This field is one that is constantly changing, and with research we are able to at least try and keep up.

Sarah Brown, Undergraduate Research Assistant

I am from Hope, AR and a current Junior Health Science with an emphasis in Physical Therapy major at UCA. I am interested in physical therapy because I want to be able to give back and provide the best rehabilitation care just like I was given a few years ago. Research is important to the physical therapy profession because it provides physical therapist with a background of evidence based knowledge in order to provide better care to their patients.

Valencia Gibson, Undergraduate Research Assistant

I am from Nassau, Bahamas.  I am a freshman at UCA majoring in Family and Consumer Science with an Exercise Science minor.  I have a passion for physical therapy because it is an element of healing.  I refuse to watch others suffer in pain when I can lend a healing hand.  Research in physical therapy is important to modify their clinical practice.  The more research done, the more knowledge gained, which in turn can benefit the clinical practices.

Rebecca Hendrix, Undergraduate Research Assistant

I am from Benton, Arkansas. I intend to obtain my Health Sciences, Emphasis in Physical Therapy degree from UCA in May of 2019. My interest in physical therapy stems from a personal desire to stay adequately physically active for as long as possible, as well as a motivation to help others do the same. Research contributes to the knowledge and progress of our practice, and will assist each of us in providing exceptional care.

Lily Ho, Undergraduate Research Assistant

I’m from Fort Smith, AR. I am a junior and I am a pre-PT major. I got interested in PT after joining soccer in high school and falling in love with the way being active makes me feel. I believe mobility and physical strength is a huge factor in being physically and mentally healthy. Research is important to physical therapy because increasing knowledge and findings on new modalities, ways to maximize the availability of healthcare, and much more will lead to further helping patients in our community.

Sidney Hunt, Undergraduate Research Assistant

I am from Chicago, Illinois where I was born and raised.  I am a sophomore at UCA and a Health Science major with an emphasis in PT.  My favorite sport is high school basketball and I love turtles. I’m a firm believer in being optimistic and achieving every goal I set for myself.  I’m interested in PT because of the amount of things you can do within the career. I’m also interested in PT because I enjoy people and I will consistently be challenged to help others. Physical therapy research is important because it helps us understand what effects we have as future physical therapist on our community/society. I see research as us stepping out and looking in to see what is really happening. Sometimes as professionals, we submerge into our field without looking around to see what the career of physical therapy does for our community/society.

Jordyn Johnson, Undergraduate Research Assistant

I’m a junior majoring in Health Sciences – Pre-PT and minoring in Spanish.  I am from Rogers, AR.  I’m interested in physical therapy because it is such a rewarding career to be able to improve people’s daily lives.  Research is so important in physical therapy because things are always changing, and new evidence based practice can always strengthen results.

Carl Roberts, Undergraduate Research Assistant

I am from Green Forest, AR. I am currently a sophomore undergraduate student at the University of Central Arkansas and my major is Health Sciences with a Physical Therapy Emphasis. I plan to work in orthopedic physical therapy. Research is important for this profession because it helps us discover the needs of patients or areas that are not currently being fulfilled.

Genesis Villalobos, Undergraduate Research Assistant

I am from Rogers, AR. I am a senior at the University of Central Arkansas pursuing a Bachelor of Health Science with an emphasis in Physical Therapy. Helping others is my passion and I believe physical therapy is the setting for me. Research in the field of physical therapy is important to increase our knowledge and implement evidence to patient care.
