TET Exam 2022: Meaning, State-Wise Examination, Benefits

Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) is an exam that is conducted at both central (CTET) and state levels (TET) to check the eligibility of aspirants who want to become teaching professionals. CTET is conducted by the central government whereas the TET exam is conducted by state governments.

What is TET?

It is an examination conducted by the central as well the state government to check the eligibility of an aspirant to become a teacher. Lakhs of aspirants from across the country appear for the exam to be recruited as a government teachers. The posts available are:

  • Primary Teachers (PRTs) for classes 1 to 5
  • Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs) for classes 6 to 10
  • Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs) for classes 11 to 12

It is important to remember that clearing TET only makes you eligible to apply for teaching jobs. To become a teacher you will have to go through the other rounds of screening/interviews.

Benefits of Appearing TET examination

TET examination helps in finding out the candidates who are deserving to become a teacher. It filters out the best candidates. It helps in making the education system better.

To improve the standards of teaching, the Government of India has been conducting TET since 2011. Now, all the government schools in India require you to pass the examination to be eligible to apply for a teaching job.  Many highly reputed private CBSE schools also ask for a TET certificate.

After clearing the examination you become eligible to apply for primary and upper primary school. Without TET you can only apply to elementary schools.
